You might say it was love at first sight the day we met a certain six year old girl with a twinkling light in her eyes. She came to us and now we come to you. She did not know it at the time, but little Jennifer gave us so much and we want to share her story with you. Jennifer’s everyday life was not what a little girl should imagine. You see, Jennifer did not have a home. After she lost her dad, her mother lost their home and Jennifer and her mom drifted from an apartment to shelters. Moving from place to place, schools changed and friends were hard to make. Yet Jennifer knew that someday she would have a home again, friends to giggle with and a warm bed every night for bedtime stories.
During the most overwhelming of events in a family’s life, EBCH was able to be there, giving a hand up not a hand out — a warm glow, offering comfort and security, a home with services needed to once again be independent. We were able to help Jennifer and her Mom because of donations from our supporters in the community, people like you. There are many families like Jennifer’s who need our help.
It is with a deep sense of appreciation that the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless recognizes all those who have helped giving a hand up, not a hand out, to homeless families in our community. As you gather with your family this holiday season, please take moment to remember families most in need. Families like Jennifer’s. In this economy, funds have been cut back by state and federal programs and yet families are in need more than ever. Your support will make a vital difference. Please help us continue to rebuild lives and offer hope for the future.
We take the responsibility of your charitable contribution very seriously and ensure it is put only towards its intended charitable purpose. Your non-profit donation enables a family to move from homelessness into a place to call home, creating stable, vibrant and healthy communities. In the chart below, you’ll see what every dollar given can do for the families we support. Every donation of $25.00 provides a family a safe night at home. A donation of $48.00 will pay for electricity for one month, for one family. Please give what you can and make a real difference in the lives of a family.
On behalf of all our families, Board and staff ~ Thank you with our warmest wishesTracy Spates, EBCH Chair
